As most people know, an éclair is a very prestigious French dessert. However, class doesn’t have to come with a lot of work. And even more, you can twist the recipe a little. Don’t blueberries and Nutella sound amazing together?
You don’t have to be Marie-Antoine Carême (the pastry chef for royalty who is speculated to have created the eclair), to cook a luxurious and yet such a simple dessert. If we can do it, probably ANYONE can.
This delicacy is going to bring a small part of the French cuisine into your kitchen in a more modern manner. Even though Lorde says that we will never be royals, here we are proving her wrong.
Try this fabulous recipe and become a queen or a king for the evening.
Nutella Eclairs
Category:
Sweets, TREATS
Ingredients
Shell:
150ml (5oz) vegetable oil
300ml (10oz) water
300g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
6 eggs
Pinch of salt
Filling:
4 cups Nutella
2 cups Whipped Cream
Instructions
Heat the oven at 220C (428F)
Pour the water, oil and salt in a saucepan, until it starts boiling.
When the liquid is boiling, pour the flour in and stir until it is evenly spread. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
Gradually add the eggs and make sure the final mixture is neither too hard nor very fluid.
Put the batter in a piping bag; on a pan, put a baking sheet which covers its area. Start piping your eclairs. You can make them as long as you want. You would also want to use the widest pipe head that you have because this way you’re guaranteed to have perfect eclairs. *If you have special form for eclairs, that’s fine too, pipe them in there, it is a lot easier.
Open your oven and it’s time to bake the tasty eclairs for about 10 min, at 220C (428F) and then for another 10 minutes at 180C (356F)
For the filling: Beat the whipping cream until it starts forming soft peaks.
Add the nutella and mix more until it is fully incorporated and has a creamy, kind of stiff texture. Be careful not to overmix it.
There are more than one way to fill the eclairs. The way we choose to do it is to cut it in half and put the cream in with a spoon or a piping bag. You can also just make like a small hole and try to squeeze the filling in. This is how most bakeries and people do it, but it is really up to you, they’re going to be delicious and pretty in any way. Top them with blueberries, chocolate chips or whatever your heart wants!
